Background

The "Not Approved by Comic's Code" series is a group of interviews with varioius artists in the comic space, talking about things like where these artists got their starts or their favorite memories, and acts as a way to show off the artist's works and their personality

For this project, I was tasked with creating a little zine that would show off the contents of an interview of my choosing, which I ended up choosing Will Arnold's interview.

Process

The main idea I wanted to pursue with this zine was connecting his interview with his work. In the interview, Will Arnold talks about his work calling it more of a collage than an art piece, as he doesn't make the art himself. This game be an idea to overlap the interview with his collages, kinda like he does himself.

The first step of this was to figure out the best way to get this to be compact, interactable, and still showcase his pieces in full. This is where I came up with the folding tabs throughout the zine.

As you delve into the interview, his art peeks over the questions and responses, teasing more content for you to interact with. When you open the tabs, it opens up into the full work, which allows them to leave an impact.

What I learned

This project taught me a lot in terms of placement and thinking about layout in terms of using it to its full potential.
